Karaoke Songs For Low Female Voices - Vocal Range
A Contralto is a type of classical female singing voice who's vocal range is the lowest female voice type.
Generally, female voices would be either Soprano or Mezzo Soprano, so if you have the Contralto then this type is certainly more unique.
The vocal range for a Contralto voice would sit somewhere between the E note below middle C (E3) to the second G note above middle C (G5). This is very close to a male Tenor having a similar range in vocals.
A female Contralto voice can easily sing most songs that men can sing as they can sound like men when they speak or sing lower notes.
A Contralto voice would have warmer, darker tones than a Mezzo Soprano and the singer would be completely at ease in the lower range.
The Contralto voice type has a 'tessitura' of around E3-E5 and a good degree of vocal weight.

Brother and Sister duo Karen and Richard Carpenter wrote and produced some of the most memorable, iconic songs during their career. 'Close to you' was no exception. This beautiful song showed off Karen's amazing voice at it's best.
Although Karen normally sang as a Contralto, she had the rare ability to transition from the more typical female register to a much lower range that she referred to as her 'Basement'.
Thanks to her brother Richard's songwriting skills and song choices, her lower range was masterfully used on songs such as 'rainy days and Mondays', music that had that overall melancholy feel to it.
Their songs always felt a little mysterious and distant and were perfect for times when you where feeling low, alone or heartbroken.
Sadly, Karen passed away in February 1983 from heart failure brought on by her long struggle with the eating disorder 'Anorexia Nervosa'. She was only 32 years old.
Karen left behind a legacy of chart topping hits that we all know and love to this day. The music industry lost one of the greatest vocal artists in history.
Richard continued Karen's legacy by performing live and releasing new compilations. He is still pursuing a solo career in music and has often performed with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra with whom he released a new compilation of classical updates of Carpenter songs in 2018 that went on to reach No.8 in the UK charts.
The Carpenters were one of the most enduring and endeared recording artists in music history. Their music will continue to bring the 'magic' to any karaoke gathering for many years to come.
